The Open Board

A Declaration of Dice, Chequers, and Radical Presence

WE BELIEVE that for nearly 2,000 years, humanity has been trying to tell us something. From the royal Sassanid courts of Mesopotamia, to the street cafes of Cairo, to the park benches of New York City, the game of Backgammon has survived empires and the internet.

We believe in the philosophy of the board: that life is a mix of strategy and chance, and the best way to navigate it is together, in person.

WE REJECT the scrolling thumb. We reject the "connection" that happens through a screen, filtered by algorithms and distance. We are trading pixels for pips.

WE ARE BUILDING A CLUB FOUNDED ON TWO PILLARS:

1. "The game" is the vehicle

Backgammon is our heritage because it is the perfect engine for interaction—ancient, ruthless, and beautifully chaotic. We take this spirit into everything we do, creating environments where strategy meets spontaneity.

2. The Connection is the Destination

Let’s be honest: The activity is a pretext. Whether we are playing a game or sharing a table, it is a Trojan Horse for friendship. It is a pretext to sit across from a stranger, look them in the eye, and share a moment of time.

We provide the 3 & 1 (). Our name isn't an accident. In the modern backgammon, the 3 & 1 is the undisputed best opening roll—it secures the golden point and sets the tone. We exist to give you that same "perfect opening" for a new human connection.

We meet in person. Presence matters. You need to hear the clack of the checkers or the sound of the room. We gather in person because digital substitutes can't replicate the energy of a shared physical space.

We honor the "Open Board." We pay homage to the deep history of communal games while opening our doors to anyone who values real connection. We welcome the grandmasters and the novices alike; the board is open to everyone.

We embrace the "Bad Beat." Sometimes you play perfectly and lose. We laugh at the absurdity of the "roll," because shared laughter in the face of chaos is the fastest way to bond.
